Lower Lid Surgery Procedure

LOWER LID BLEPHAROPLASTY

Oculoplastic Surgeons perform cosmetic as well as medically- necessary surgeries. One of the most common cosmetic procedures is removing the “fat pads” from the lower lids to create a smooth appearance under the eyes, eliminating those puffy, unsightly bags that can make you look tired and worn out. This procedure is performed without a skin incision by approaching the fat pads through the under surface of the eyelid called a transconjunctival approach so there are no external sutures or scars.

Post-operatively, there is swelling, bruising, redness in and around the eyes, discharge and tenderness. Our patients are instructed to apply an antibiotic ointment as well as ice continuously for 24 hour period. There is little or no pain involved. A patient may return to work after two days if they feel comfortable and can see well enough.

Everyone heals differently but most patients see marked improvement immediately, though another 7-14 days makes an even more dramatic difference. By 6 weeks, the patient is technically “surgically” healed.
