Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is the cost to have my upper and/or lower lids surgically repaired? Does Insurance cover these procedures?
A: Many insurance plans cover lid repair procedures if repair is found to be medically necessary. Medical necessity is determined through the course of patient’s initial consult. Coverage and out of pocket cost is subject to patient’s individual insurance plan. A bilateral cosmetic upper lid repair costs $3,500.00. A bilateral cosmetic lower lid repair is $3,500.00. Financing for cosmetic procedures is available through Chase Health Advantage.
Q: What happens during my initial consultation with Dr. Larson?
A: Patient will review medical history, reason for consult, current medications being taken with one of Dr. Larson’s technicians. Patient will be evaluated by the physician to determine plan of treatment. A series of visual field exams and photos will be performed as a part of determining medical necessity. Patient will then be given an opportunity to schedule their surgical appointment with patient coordinator.
Q: What do I need to bring to my initial consult with Dr. Larson?
A: The following items will be collected at time of arrival:
- Insurance Card(s)
- Driver’s license or valid form of Photo ID
- Completed New Patient Information forms with list of current medications and dosage -Patient co-pay (if applicable)
Q: Once I have completed my initial consult with Dr. Larson, Can I have my eyelid surgery right away?
A: Patient’s surgical appointment is determined by any pre-determination period required by patient’s insurance plan and current medications patient is taking. The common pre-determination period for most insurance plans is 4-6 weeks. Most blood thinning medications, vitamins, and supplements will require that patients stop them 5-10 days before their surgical procedures. This will be reviewed on a patient-to-patient basis at the consultation.
Q: What can I expect after surgery?
A: We recommend patient have a caregiver for the first 24 hours. Upon discharge, patient may also be very sleepy or experience feeling groggy due to sedation. During this time, ice compressions will be applied continuously to the surgical site. Most patients do not experience post-operative pain, however they may experience some discomfort from the ice for which OTC Tylenol may be used. Swelling, redness, and some discharge at surgical site can all be expected. The patient will return to the office for their first post-operative appointment the following day. We recommend that the patient have a driver for this appointment.
Q: When can I resume my normal daily activities? How long is my recovery?
A: During first week of post operative recovery the patient should limit activities that require bending, lifting, or straining. After sutures are removed, patients are instructed to return to their daily activities gradually. Patients may resume using make-up and other facial products after the first two weeks. Bruising and swelling near and at the surgical site will dissipate over time. This will be greatly influenced by the patient’s medical condition(s) and their body’s healing process. On average patients see desired results at their 6 week follow-up appointment; however healing may take longer up to 6-12 months.
